The day began by meeting at Chilham Car park. It was a bit chilly, tho the walkers that were there looked very well wrapped up! Once we had our sheets we set off one by one on our 20.6 mile journey to Macknades. The journey was not eventful, winding our way through Chartham Hatch, Dargate, Druidstone, Graveney and into Faversham to our destination. Almost everyone arrived following the directions except Jim and Josie who had a detour to Whitstable! During the run we had a photo sheet of various people and had to write down who we thought they were, so after refreshments it was time to see who had the most correct questions. Gill and Roger and Helen & Doug both tied, so after a tie break Helen and Doug were declared the winners and they received a very nice box of chocolates.
Once we had all finished our shopping at Macknades, a very well stocked farm shop, It was onto part two of the run, On leaving the car park, we went along towards Painters Forstal, we were warned about a few pot holes along the route, some of which were quite big! so thanks for that Ian & Jackie. The views as we reached Waterditch Road and turned by the 'White Bungalow' were amazing, especially as the sun had made an appearance, onwards we went through Charing, some of our cars made quite alot of noise through the highstreet!! On through Hothfield, Faversham, Wye, A28 passing the Compasses Inn, into Crundale and then Huntstreet, which was full of horses and their riders out for a afternoon ride! There was horse s**t everywhere and so many horses that most of us got caught up behind them! So once pass them it was into Waltham, Elmstead, Hastingleigh and into Stelling Minnis, where we finally finished the run at the Rose and Crown.
The food at the Rose and Crown was awesome, everything was cooked perfectly and the puddings were very large and tasted gorgeous. Many thanks to Ian and Jackie for orgainising a fabulous run out, our first one as a club this year.
